How soon can I begin feeding my dog after severe diarrhea?

my 69 lbs. mix breed began having diarrhea last night. We withheld breakfast today, but the diarrhea (combined with audible gas during the movement) continued throughout most of the day. It has been 4-6 hours since he has had a movement. Can I feed him something bland like rice yet or should I wait longer? He knows it is past his dinnertime and is asking for food.
