What steps did the reconstruction governments take to rebuild the south?
The Reconstruction governments, despite their generally negative reputation thanks to racist historians throughout the late 1800s to the 1960, did a lot of good for the South. They changed voting laws so that everyone could vote, not just rich guys. They redistricted so that cities had more political power, as befit their larger populations. They rebuilt the Southern infrastructure. They made the tax distribution fairer. They allowed education for all, helped by the Federal Freedman's Bureau. Most importantly, they stuck up for the rights of blacks.
